Stephanie Barnes, New England Division Manager

1. What does a typical work day look like for you?

A typical day for me is interacting with customers and employees to accomplish common goals. As the day progresses, I begin to formulate plans for the following day(s), both as a response to feedback and in a pro-active posture, trying to anticipate client needs.

2. What types of sustainability trends have you noticed within the industry?

Today clients need productive solutions. They need to satisfy their clients and still be able to maintain a bottom line by receiving solutions that help them grow. The recent trend is ever more towards sustainable solutions in chemical use, consumables, equipment and cleaning methods.

3. How does your position within Able help achieve sustainability goals for clients?

Every day I have an opportunity to not only provide a service to my clients, I have an opportunity to come up with solutions that make Able a sustainable partner that contributes. As the needs of the environment continue to reveal themselves, I try to assist our client base in developing sustainable solutions in partnership with the appropriate providers.

4. What is the most rewarding aspect of your position as a Division Manager?

The most rewarding part of my position is accomplishing my customers’ needs and building partnerships in the process. It’s always a great feeling to know that someone had a problem and I contributed to finding the answer. Likewise, it’s always nice to know that I solved an employee’s needs whenever such an issue comes my way.

5. What is the hardest part about your position?

I think it may be the sense that if something is wrong with one of my sites, I need to pay attention; whether it is late at night, a holiday, vacation time or a weekend, the sense of responsibility is always there.

6. How do you maintain a healthy work/life balance?

I always take time to refresh by shutting down the phone and email to enjoy time with my children. This can be challenging, but it is so important that it sometimes needs the kind of planning required in my business life. Just like in business, I have to “Make it happen.”

7. What does true leadership mean to you?

A leader develops teams and learns from them in the process. Leadership is about listening, understanding and guiding to achieve goals! To follow the words of John Quincy Adams, I want to inspire those around me to dream more, learn more, do more and become more. That would make a true leader.
